When you are "Stuck on a Word"

When you (or your child) come to a word you are struggling with, here are the hints we use in class.

     * make the first sound and think of words that make sense
     * check for picture clues
     * look for chunks or parts of words you know inside the word ( man in woman)
     * skip it and read to end of sentence

Remember to LISTEN to yourself as you are reading.  Ask yourself, does that make sense??  Does it sound right??  If NOT --- then STOP and FIX~IT with one of the hints above!

Book Buddies!

Dear Family,
Tonight I am bringing home a special friend to read with us.    Please listen to us read some of our stories.  I need to write in my “Book Journal” about our time together tonight.  You can write in it too!  My friend, book, and bag have to be returned to Mrs. Steph’s class tomorrow.  They can only spend ONE NIGHT with us!
Thank you for helping me be the best reader I can be!!!
